With cooler weather on the way, it’s time to embrace those cosy vibes that Autumn brings.

To give your interiors an instant seasonal refresh, a less-is-more approach is the way to go. The key is to create a strong base that lends itself to new layers. Depending on your style, this could mean starting with muted hues like beige, stone or dove grey for your larger pieces – a couch or lounge suite, window coverings, a coffee table – all of which give you the flexibility to go bolder or more colourful with your homewares, accessories and occasional furniture pieces.

Layer up – as the temperature drops, textural cushions and throws in velvet, linen or with macramé detailing add style and warmth. For a modern look, try a monochromatic palette, or for something more eclectic, introduce patterns and additional colours that complement your loungeroom. Rugs, sheepskins, armchairs and daybeds are stylish ways to welcome new layers and pieces with personality.

Embrace colour – expect to see more deep, rich and warm colours this season, with pinot, peacock blue, emerald green, amber and blush pink all picked by trend makers. Interior designers are layering these colours in living rooms with paints, textures, accessories and rugs to create a sense of drama against white and neutral backgrounds.

Bright spark – indoor plants are an excellent way to refresh your space naturally. If you’re green thumbed, try your hand at a fiddle leaf fig. Pop one in a well-lit spot away from direct sun and be sure to prune, water and fertilise. For something more low maintenance that even black thumbs will love, rubber plants or snake plants are hard-wearing and tolerant of a little neglect.

Bring the outside in – let the beauty of the season inspire your home by welcoming beautiful foliage indoors. Collect any interesting looking branches you come across while you’re walking the dog or even in your own backyard.
